OVERPOPULATION IN ANIMAL SHELTERS

We found inspiration for our project in the work of the organization Downtown Dog Rescue. Founder Lori Weise realized that pet over population in shelters across the United States is not due to pet owners not loving their dogs, but due to difficult situations people encounter in their lives, poverty being one of them.

As a response she partenered with Found Animals Foundation and the South Los Angeles Shelter to launch the Shelter Intervention Program to offer pet owners solutions to prevent them from surrendering their pets.

We found some of the top reasons why pet owners in LA and other USA cities end up leaving their dogs at the nearest shelter or worst, on the streets.
